After winning the Twenty20 World Cup and beating the Aussies in a tri-series, Mahi is trying a masterstroke. At a ripe 26, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has turned his focus to academics.
Having already beaten the World cricket champions Aussies on their home turf as a skipper of Team India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now eager to pursue his Bachelors’ degree.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni has sought admission in St. Xavier’s College through sports quota. He wants to do a Bachelors degree in Commerce in the academic year beginning from August 2008.
Teachers and students at the St. Xavier’s college are elated at Dhoni’s wish to study at their college. They view it as an opportunity for the college to gain international recognition with Indian Cricket skipper Dhoni’s admission.
“Mahi’s coming to our college would be a matter of pride for us. About his attendence, the management has decided to put him under special privilege rule, so that he could complete his graduation,” said K.K. Bose, a Professor at the St. Xavier College.
Students, who usually saw him on television sets and aspired to be like him, would now get opportunity to study with him.
“We are very proud. Somebody like Dhoni would come and study in our college. He is like an idol to us and we want to be like him. We feel very honoured,” said Manoj, a student at St. Xavier’s College.
Besides, Dhoni is going to promote health and fitness by opening a world class gym in Ranchi that will serve as an ideal center for physical fitness for sportspersons in Jharkhand and Bihar.
“It would be more like providing job opportunities to the best sports force from a world class gym and that’s what my plan happens to be. If I have a world-class gym, it won’t be restricted to any particular sports. Any sportsperson from Bihar and Jharkhand can come and use it,” Dhoni remarked at the St.Xavier’s College in Ranchi. St Xavier’s College Principal Nicholas Tete confirmed that Dhoni is seeking admission in the institute through the sports quota. It is in this connection that he met Ranchi University Sports Director Jai Kumar Sinha . “He has expressed a wish to pursue B Com from our college. But he’ll have problems attending classes both owing to his cricket engagements as well as his star status. We’ll need to complete other formalities including the University’s permission,” said Tete.
A Commerce degree may help him manage the millions he will make from the IPL. And, perhaps, decipher the number of zeroes in the next cheque which comes his way, till the euphoria of India’s victory over Australia lasts. A bachelor’s degree may also make the hearthrob of millions the most eligible bachelor among the Men in Blue.
Yes Dhoni, You can do Anithing. Best Of Luck to your Bachelors degree .
