Dravid sixth batsman to join 10,000-run club

India’s Rahul Dravid became only the sixth batsman in history to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket when he reached 80 on the fourth day of the first Test against South Africa at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here Saturday.

The Bangalore-based Dravid, 35, is playing in his 120th Test and averaged 55.11 at the start of his 206th innings. He made his debut at Lord’s, London, against England in 1996.

Sehwag first opener to register two triple centuries

Virender Sehwag was finally out for 319 - his, and India’s, second triple century - when he was caught by Neil McKenzie off fast bowler Makhaya Ntini on the fourth and penultimate day of the first Test against South Africa here Saturday.

Sehwag, who had scored India’s first Test triple century against Pakistan in Multan in 2004, batted for 531 minutes, faced 304 balls and smashed 42 boundaries and five sixes at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium for the highest Test score ever by an Indian.
