We refer to your post mortem programme on hoardings at 9.30pm on 24th july’10.
We find that the said programme was telecast devoid of any solid documents & data,purely playing on the sentiments or rather evoking the sentiments by misguiding the viewers.
We take the case point by point
1) The KMC earned Rs.30 crore as of march ending 2010 from the outdoor media alone & have been earning to a similar figure year after year.The figures can be had from the KMC authorities.
No other media have contributed any where near this figure though their earnings from advertisements is considerable.
Also we are sad to note that the concerned department of KMC was not contacted for any data on the said issue.
2) If your allegation that almost all the hoardings are illegal then how could the KMC earn so much money ??
3) All the outdoor medias were clubbed together and termed as hoardings.Hoarding is one media. There are others like banners,sky sign,glow sign,kiosk,traffic sign,mobile signs etc etc….
4) We have an association of outdoor media owners & we should have been contacted for our side of the story, instead one lone media owner ( who is not that well informed about all the macro issues ) was contacted to give credence to your story.But perhaps putting up the actual picture was not the motive, the objective of the programme was to malign the trade so that some ulterior motives could be served.
5) One reason for doing away with hoardings or lessening their numbers was that of visual pollution. We have other more harmful pollutions from cars & vehicles, from factories,shopping malls, hotel & restaurants,newspapers & even the electronic media which generates some very toxic pollutions. The electronic & print media is also very much responsible for the decline of the moral standards brought about by the programmes they broadcast & some advertisements which are downright obscene ( should we term it moral pollution !! )that has a far reaching effect on the character & the organic structure of a nation…. should we ban them ?? The visual pollution in comparison doesn’t hold a candle…..
6) The luxury of containing pollution & that too a totally non harmful one( physiologically ) as has been termed “visual pollution” can not be afforded by our country where the people are struggling to make their ends meet & this outdoor industry provides employment not only to 1000s of direct labour but 1000s of white collar workers & several other satellite industries. There is a whole chain of industries tied to this media like the flex producers,printers,the machine & other related items’ ( we could go on & on..nails to adhesive bonds, you just name them !) manufacturers etc etc etc..
Hence before maligning the trade & bringing about a downfall of the industry please give it a deeper thought as a responsible citizen of India.

I am Sri Rataneswar Ghosh resided at Banskopa,Rajbandh, Durgapur-12. On dated 21.07.2010 in the Eastern Railway Div. the Railway track was broken (Rail Line) at Banskopa area (Between Durgapur and Rajbandh Station) I and also two person visited our Paddy field nearest the Railway Line at 5:45 AM when we were travelling our Paddy field suddenly we saw that the Railway track was broken,then immediately we were run in the track to stop a Goods carrier train (Maal Gari) was coming on the broken line. This incident was published in Ananda Bazaar Patrika (Pageno. 11) on dated 22.07.2010.
